re-pipingThere are several reasons for having plumbing re-piping done in your home, but here we’ll look at 3 of the most common.

  1. Old Galvanized Piping. This should always be replaced. It was originally thought that it wouldn’t rust as easily as other materials, but this wasn’t the case. It’s very unhealthy to drink water from these pipes. They also restrict water flow, which can cause issues in other areas of your home.
  2. Illegal Piping: The sad truth is that many contractors sometimes install plumbing that’s not up to building code. Usually, there is a good reason why piping is illegal, so it should be taken seriously as it may be hazardous. Homeowners often don’t know they have illegal piping until they get re-piping done or try to sell their homes.
  3. Leaky Copper Piping: If copper pipes – or any pipes for that matter – continually spring leaks, then re-piping may be the only solution. Depending on the type of copper that was installed when your home was first built or remodeled, an inferior quality copper may have been used. For instance, ‘M’ copper is thinner than ‘L’ copper. Another reason is the chemical composition of water, which may, over time, erode the piping. If the water in your area is particularly aggressive, then the thinner walls of the pipes make leaks inevitable.
